Upstate SC GEDCOM Database

Surnames Project

Database Established in 1991 by Herman Geschwind & Joe Looper - 356,000 records

ALL GEDCOM DATABASE INFORMATION contained within this project, is considered to be Public Domain Information by our Federal Government.  U.S. Copyright Law does not protect this type of data, only the presentation of it.  This is an important point for genealogists, because it means that data such as Names, Dates & Places can not be copyright protected.  Therefore, you can not legally block any of this data from public viewing.

GEDCOM is the GEnealogical Data COMmunication standard that was established by the Family History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  It's recommended that you reference the Wikipedia Encyclopedia webpage at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GEDCOM for a detailed explanation of what a database of this type actually represents.

A GEDCOM Database CAN NOT NORMALLY BE POLICED.  You should expect its content to be incomplete, contain inaccuracies & typo errors.  Attempting to make permanent record changes to a GEDCOM Database, isn't worth the effort -- because the incorrect info will simply continue to be merged into this database over & over.  Also, this webpage simply represents a historical snapshot / image of the Project's 01-Dec-2006 archived issue.

If you would like a copy of this 01-Dec-2006 issue to determine if any additional surname dates & place might have also been submitted, it will be necessary for you do the following --

E-mail LaMarr Brooks at thomasbrooks1@bellsouth.net and request that she e-mail you a ZIP copy of this revision.  Please note that the e-mail file size being sent you is ~12MB in physical size and is available for your own personal non-profit use...

You will be required to un-ZIP the file received using a ZIP program such as WinZip or 7-Zip. Then you will be required to Import the .ged file into a Family Tree program such as RootsMagic, Ancestral Quest, MyHeritage, Ancestry or GeneWeb for researching records.
